On 5th May, tensions between India and China began to emerge, when a violent confrontation between India China soldiers resulted into a month long Standoff in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. India and China Stand-off started with the deployment of armies from both sides and tensions erupted between the two nations. Both the Nations wanted to peacefully handle the Standoff through Bilateral Talks. 

On 6th June, talks between the two sides started and at last on 9th June, both the Nations consent for a phased de-escalation of the armies from both sides and the Standoff was seemingly to be resolved. There were 5 areas of dispute along the LAC. After the consensus among both the Nations, the armies from all these areas were disengaging except the Ladakh region, where tensions were more terrible.

On 16th June, A violent Face-Off occurred between India and China, which resulted in the lives of 20 Indian Soldiers and casualties on the both sides. After the Face-Off, World War 3 started to trending on twitter on late 16th night.


Why did tensions erupted ?

Due to the difference of Opinion of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the violent Clash between the two sides occured in the Galwan valley on 16th June.


  • Both the armies were patrolling on the LAC and a Face-off occured. A larger group of Chinese army attacked Indian Group.
  • As there were a month long tensions among both the armies and the deployment of large number of Soldiers and military vehicles resulted in the Face-off.
  • However, there were no firing of bullets reported. It means all the 20 Indian Soldiers, which also includes a Colonel had been beaten to death.

Indian Army Statements


  • Indian & Chinese troops have disengaged at Galwan area where they had earlier clashed on the night of 15/16 June. 17 Indian troops who were critically injured in the line of duty at Standoff Location
  • And exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain have succumbed to their injuries, taking the total that were killed in action to 20. Indian army is firmly committed protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation.

Indian intercepts reveal that Chinese side also suffered 43 casualties including several dead however China refused to public the details about the casualties in the Clash.

China Statements

  • In the statement, Chinese People Liberation Army  (PLA) has accused India for violating the norms along the LAC.
  • Chinese statement acknowledged that China has suffered casualties but doesn't public the figures of casualties.
  • China has accused India for entering into the Line of Actual Control (LAC).


Defence Minister met the CDS(Chief of  Defence Staff) Gen. Bipin Rawat to discuss the issue. Indian Army stated that Indian Army is firmly committed to protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation. Talks between the two sides will continue to resolve the issue further.
