Indian contestant Srinidhi Shetty wins Miss Supranational
  • India's representative Srinidhi Shetty has been crowned Miss Supranational 2016, an international beauty pageant.
  • This marks the second time that India has won the pageant following the win by Asha Bhat in 2014. 
India, Qatar sign 4 pacts on visa, cyberspace, investments
  • India and Qatar on Saturday signed four agreements on visas, cyberspace, and investments following delegation-level talks led by PM Narendra Modi and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani. 
  • This is the third high-level bilateral engagement between the two countries in the past two years, which underlines India’s growing ties with Qatar.
Italy PM Renzi to resign as reform referendum fails
  • Italian PM Matteo Renzi has said that he would submit his resignation on Monday after nearly 60% voters rejected reforms that would have drastically reduced the role of the country's Senate. 
  • "I lost even if I do so with a knot in my throat I am not a robot," Renzi said while accepting responsibility for failure in the nation-wide referendum. 
The Heart of Asia conference in Amritsar
  • The 6th Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia summit was held in Amritsar and was attended by over 40 delegates, including 14 from southeast and central Asian member countries. 
  • Under the 'Amritsar Declaration' adopted at the summit, terrorism was declared the biggest threat to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the Asian nations.
Amazon launches in-house fashion brand 'Myx' in India
  • The Indian arm of e-commerce major Amazon has launched its second in-house private fashion label, an ethnic wear brand for women called 'Myx'. 
  • Amazon India had launched its menswear brand 'Symbol' in September. 
  • Flipkart-owned Myntra owns 11 private labels, including Hrithik Roshan's HRX and Virat Kohli's Wrogn.
ISRO to launch remote sensing satellite on Dec 7
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday announced that it is all set to launch PSLV-C36 carrying 1,235 kg remote sensing satellite RESOURCESAT-2A from the spaceport of Sriharikota on December 7. 
  • The satellite would carry a high-resolution Linear Imaging Self Scanner camera, medium-resolution LISS-3 camera and an advanced wide field sensor camera that operates in various bands.
Website to educate women on legal rights launched in India
  • Tasmania-based Women's Legal Service has launched a website for Indian women to educate them about their legal rights in partnership with TRS Law Offices.
  • The website, '', has different heads such as relationships, employment, partying, renting, and money.
  • Each of these sections has a brief description about the situation and legal options available.
Bird festival organised in Uttar Pradesh
  • Uttar Pradesh government organised a three-day bird festival is being  in Chambal.  
  • Cabinet Minister Abhishek Mishra was inaugurated the festival.
  • Tim Appleton, who reportedly started the world's first bird fair in England, was also present during the inauguration. 
  • The festival will feature talks by prominent ornithologists and workshops by professional photographers.
First Asian-American to win Olympic gold passes away at 96
  • Two-time Olympic gold medallist diver Sammy Lee died aged 96 on Friday in Newport Beach due to pneumonia. 
  • Lee, a Korean-American, became the first ever Asian-American to win an Olympic gold medal for the US after winning gold in the 1948 London Olympics. 
  • Lee, also a physician, notably served in the US Army Medical Corps in the Korean War.
India defeat Pakistan to win sixth straight Women's Asia Cup
  • India clinched the Women's T20 Asia Cup 2016 after defeating Pakistan by 17 runs in the final in Bangkok on Sunday. 
  • Batting first, India posted a total of 121/5 driven by opener Mithali Raj's unbeaten 73 runs off 65 balls. 
  • Pakistan were held at 104/6 with Ekta Bisht taking 2 scalps, giving India their sixth successive Asia Cup title.
Officers, Sailors And Civilians Celebrate Navy Day
  • Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 every year to celebrate the Indian Navy's achievements and commemorate the sacrifices made by their personnel. 
  • The Indian Navy celebrates the day to commemorate the launch of Operation Trident against Pakistan on 4th December, 1971. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Indian Navy personnel on the occasion of Navy Day.
International Volunteer Day: 5 December
  • The International Volunteer Day (IVD) is observed across the world on 5 December every year.
  • This year theme is " Global Applause – give volunteers a hand". 
  • This year's theme recognizes the volunteers worldwide and their efforts in making peace and sustainable development a reality.
World Soil Day: 5 December
  • The World Soil Day 2016 is observed on 5 December annually.
  • The theme for this year is “Soils and pulses, a symbiosis for life”.
  • The theme for the 2016 WSD focuses on the positive contributions of pulses to soil properties, such as fixing the atmosphere nitrogen and improving its biodiversity, fertility and structure.
Star Screen Awards 2016
  • The 23rd edition of the annual film awards show, Star Screen Awards, was held at Mumbai on 4th December 2016. 
  • The main attraction of the awards show was Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan hosting the event.
  • Shoojit Sircar's critically-acclaimed Pink bagged as many as four awards, including for the Best Film, at the 23rd Star Screen Awards 2016. 
  • While megastar Amitabh Bachchan received the Best Actor award for the film, Aditya Bannerji got the Best Editing award and Ritesh Shah got the Best Dialogue award for Pink.
Former international hockey umpire Phulel Singh Sujlana passed away
  • Former international hockey umpire and veteran administrator, Phulel Singh Sujlana, passed away due to old age.
  • The jovial Sujlana, who was also secretary of the Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) for four years from 2000-2004 after being its vice president from 1997, donned quite a few hats in hockey, officiating first at the international level as an umpire at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok.
India's internet population to touch 600 mn by 2020: Study
  • Driven by increased 4G and 3G penetration, India's internet population is likely to increase from current 343 million users to 600 million by 2020, according to a study by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) and Deloitte. 
  • India is the world's second largest mobile phone market with over a billion mobile phone connections. Among these, 240 million mobile connections belong to smartphones.
Amazon launches global startup program 'Launchpad' in India
  • E-commerce major Amazon has launched its global startup program 'Launchpad' in India, an online portal featuring over 400 products from different startups including 25 Indian startups.
  • The program will also help Indian startups to sell their products overseas. First started in 2015, Amazon Launchpad is now available in seven regions.
Airtel appoints Sunil Taldar as CEO, Director of Digital TV arm
  • Telecom operator Bharti Airtel announced top level changes by appointing Sunil Taldar as CEO & Director of its DTH arm Airtel Digital TV and moving incumbent Shashi Arora as MD & CEO of Airtel Payments Bank.
  • He takes over from Shastri Arora who, after a stint of around five years as CEO & DTH, has moved as MD & CEO, Airtel Payments Bank.
KPMG and Microsoft partner to help grow India’s digital transformation
  • KPMG in India and Microsoft India have established a strategic IoT Advisory partnership.
  • This will enable them to combine their advanced technologies, industry insights, and creative thinking to accelerate the digital transformation of large and mid-market Indian enterprises.
Flipkart's Binny Bansal, Sachin Bansal named Asians of the Year
  • Flipkart founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal have been jointly named "Asian of the Year 2016" by Singapore-based newspaper The Straits Times.
  • The "Asian of the Year 2016" award recognises entrepreneurs operating at the frontiers of technology's interface with business.
Mukesh Kumar makes history in Golf Asia Tour
  • Indian Golfer Mukesh Kumar became the oldest golfer to win an Asian Tour title on December 4, 2016 at Delhi Golf Club (DGC) after winning the Panasonic Open India. 
  • The 51-year-old Mukesh, who has won 123 PGTI titles, scored two-under 70 in the final round which made his total to 10-under 206 to claim the trophy.
Crown prince Maha Vajiralongkorn becomes Thailand's new king
  • Thailand named its crown prince Maha Vajiralongkorn as its new king on 1 December 2016, 50 days after the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadei. 
  • Dressed in white, prince Vajiralongkorn ascended the throne and accepted his new responsibilities at the invitation of the National Legislative Assembly’s (NLA) President in his Bangkok Palace amidst the whole of Thai media.
Praful Patel appointed as AFC senior VP
  • All India Football Federation President Praful Patel has been appointed as a Senior Vice-President of Asian Football Confederation.
  • Under Patel's tutelage, India won the rights to host the Fifa U-17 World Cup India 2017 and hosted the AFC U-16 Championship in September 2016.
MSS limit raised to Rs 6 lakh crore to manage liquidity

  • In order to mop up extra liquidity from the system in view of demonetisation, government and the Reserve Bank on 03rd December sharply raised the Market Stabilisation Scheme (MSS) ceiling to Rs 6 lakh crore from Rs 30,000 crore. 
  • Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das said RBI will operate within that limit as per requirement, not as if the entire quantum of MSS would be utilised overnight.
Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha Died
  • In Chennai, at Apollo hospital J Jayalalithaa was declared dead due to cardiac arrest.
  • She died on 5 December at 11:30 pm in Chennai.
  • The funeral will take place at 4.30 pm in Dr MGR Memorial site off Marina beach.
