  • 1st Cable bridge of North India ‘Atal Setu’ inaugurated in the State of Jammu and Kashmir on 24th December 2015 as inaugurated/launched by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Syed Kirmani awarded with Col. C.K. Nayadu Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Syed Kirmani awarded with Col. C.K. Nayadu Lifetime Achievement Award on 24th December 2015. He was the member of Indian Cricket team who won the ICC World Cup in the year 1983 for the first time under the Captaincy of Kapil Dev.
National Good Governance Day observed on 25th December 2015
  • National Good Governance Day observed on 25th December 2015 i.e. on the eve of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Earlier, in the year 2014, he was awarded with Bharat Ratna.
UNGA adopted 05th November as World Tsunami Awareness Day
  • United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution to designate 05th November as World Tsunami Awareness Day on 24th December 2015 with the aim to aware the people about the dangers of Tsunami.
RBI set the deadline to exchange the currency notes 30th June 2016
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) set the new deadline for exchange the pre-2005 currency notes on 23rd December 2015 i.e. 30th June 2016. Earlier, it was 31st December 2015. RBI extended the deadline for the 5th time.
1st Islamic Airline of Malaysia launched by Indian origins
  • 1st Islamic Airline of Malaysia launched on 23rd December 2015 by an Indian origins Ravi Alagendran and Karthiyani Govindan. The Airlines will offer Shariah compliant services including the prayers.
Biocon Limited launched the Hepatitis – C drug Harvoni in India
  • Biocon Limited launched the generic version of Hepatitis – C drug Harvoni in India on 24th December 2015. It will be sold under the name ‘CIMIVIR-L’ in India.
1st Artificial Liver Tissue of India developed by Pandorum Technologies
  • 1st Artificial Liver Tissue of India developed by Pandorum Technologies on 21st December 2015. Pandorum Technologies developed it with the help of 3-D printing technology.
Obama signs USD 618 bn defence bill; boosts security cooperation with India
  • US President Barack Obama has signed into law the USD 618 billion defence budget for 2017, which enhances security cooperation with India and conditions nearly half of the funding to Pakistan on a certification that it is taking demonstrable steps against the Haqqani Network.
  •  Obama has signed the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) 2017, which asks Defence Secretary and Secretary of State to take steps necessary to recognise India as America’s “major defence partner”.
Sri Lanka claims world’s tallest artificial Christmas tree
  •  Sri Lanka has unveiled a towering Christmas tree, claiming to have surpassed the world record for the tallest artificial Christmas tree. The 73-meter (238-foot) tree, built in capital Colombo, is 18 meters taller than the current record holder. The tree's steel-and-wire frame is covered with a plastic net decorated with natural pine cones, 600,000 LED bulbs and topped by a 6-meter-tall (20-foot) shining star.
  • Their tree beat the existing Guinness record held by a Chinese firm that put up a 55-meter (180-foot) tree-like tower in the city of Guangzhou last year (2015).
DRDO successfully flight tests Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight tested the Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off Odisha coast. Capable of engaging ground targets with high precision covering a range of around 100 km, SAAW precision-guided bomb is an indigenous designed and developed class smart weapon weighing 120 kg.
  • Scientific Advisor to RM and DG (Missile and Strategic Systems), DRDO, Dr G. Satheesh Reddy, lauded the scientific community of the DRDO for their efforts towards the design and development of this state-of-the-art smart weapon within the set time frame.
Govt launch mobile App 'Smart Consumer' & OCMC to provide speedy redressal of consumer grievances
  • The government has launched a host of online initiatives including a mobile App 'Smart Consumer' and an 'Online Consumer Mediation Centre (OCMC)' to provide speedy redressal of consumer grievances. 
  • The initiatives were unveiled by Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan at a function in New Delhi on the occasion of National Consumer Day (24th December 2016). A helpline 14404 was also launched for conusmer related grievances.
