SC orders National Anthem to be played at all cinema halls
  • The Supreme Court ordered that on Wednesday in all cinema halls across the nation before movie screenings,the National Anthem should be compulsorily played.
  • It should be accompanied by the National flag onscreen and any abridged version of the Anthem would not be permitted. Everyone present in the halls must rise and pay respect to the National Anthem, the court added.
PM Modi greets Nagaland on 53rd statehood day
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the people of Nagaland on the state's 53rd statehood day. "Statehood Day wishes to people of Nagaland, a state known for scenic beauty and talented citizens who will take it to new heights of progress," PM Modi tweeted. 
  • It was on this day in 1963 that Nagaland became the 16th state of India.
India signs ₹5,000-cr deal to buy M777 Howitzer guns from US
  • India on Wednesday signed a ₹5,000-crore deal with the US to buy 145 M777 lightweight Howitzer guns for the Army. 
  • The deal was approved by Defence Ministry in October to strengthen the Army, which has reportedly been facing a crunch in this weaponry segment. While 25 guns will come in ready-to-use condition, the remaining 120 will be assembled in India.
Indian football association nominated for AFC award
  • The All India Football Federation has been nominated for the Asian Football Confederation's Member Association (Developing) Award for 2016 alongside Vietnam and Malaysia. 
  • The award is given to a member association in recognition of its professional administration and governance as well as its contribution to the development and promotion of the sport at all levels within the country.
Japan hosts ice skating's Grand Prix
  • The Japanese city of Sapporo hosted the 2016 NHK Trophy, which is the last of the six events in the 2016-17 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. 
  • The disciplines at the event included men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu and Russia's Anna Pogorilaya won the men's and women's event respectively.
7-year-old Kashmiri wins gold at Asian Karate Championships
  • Hashim Mansoor, a seven-year-old boy from Kashmir's Bandipora district, has won a gold medal at the Asian Youth Karate Championships in New Delhi.
  •  Mansoor won the gold in the sub-junior category (below 25 kg) after defeating a Sri Lankan opponent in the final. Mansoor has now qualified for the World Championship, to be held next year in September.
Deepika named International Woman of the Year by Esquire
  • Deepika Padukone was awarded the title of 'International Woman of the Year' at the Esquire 'Man At His Best Awards' 2016 held in Dubai. Deepika was seen in a tuxedo by fashion designer Monisha Jaising and accessories from Italian luxury brand 'Bulgari'. 
  • She will be seen next in 'xXx: The return of Xander Cage', which will mark her Hollywood debut.
Team India wins 15 medals at International Memoriad Games
  • The Indian contingent has won 15 medals including three gold medals at the International Memoriad Games in Las Vegas emerging as the top medal-winning nation at the event. 
  • The Memorial Games, which are held to test memory, mental calculation and photographic reading, includes events like calendar dates calculation, 8x8 digit multiplication and 8-digit square root calculation among others.
Ranveer named International Man of the Year by Esquire
  • Ranveer Singh was named the 'International Man of the Year' at the 2016 Esquire 'Man At His Best Awards' held in Dubai. "I am merely a work in progress... [F]or the moment if you... want to see a man at his best -meet me five shots down at the dance floor at the after-party," he said during his acceptance speech.
World Aids Day
  • World AIDS Day is observed across the world on 1st December annually.
  • The theme for 2016 World Aids Day is ‘Hands Up for HIV Prevention’.
  • The day is observed to raise awareness to the Aids pandemic caused by the spread of the HIV infection.
  • The day is celebrated by the government organizations, NGOs, civil society and other health officials by organizing the speeches or forums discussion related to the AIDS.
Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography "Playing it my way" named Book of the Year
  • The autobiography of India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar “Playing it my way” has won the prestigious Crossword Book of the Year Award in the Autobiography category. 
  • The book is penned by renowned cricket historian and Tendulkar’s close friend Boria Majumdar.
  •  Earlier, it also had entered the Limca Book of World Records for being the best selling adult hardback across both fiction and non-fiction.
Andhra pradesh CM Chandrababu to head central committee to promote e-payments
  • NITI Aayog, under the banner of the Union Government, on 30 November 2016 constituted a 13-member committee to promote cashless economy.
  • The committee will be formed by Chief Ministers of various states representing different political parties to examine and promote the use of digital payment systems across the country. 
  • The Committee will identify the best global practices for implementing an economy primarily based on digital payment.
Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Tata Steel’s 55,000 TPA ferro-chrome plant in Gopalpur
  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurates the 55,000-tonne per annum (TPA) Odisha ferro-chrome plant set up by Tata Steel at a cost of Rs 542 crore in its Gopalpur Industrial Park in Ganjam district.
  • The plant is a unique environment-friendly unit with state-of-the-art pollution control equipment and technology such as ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) and STP (Sewage Treatment Plant). 
  •  It is the first plant in India to use briquetting method of chrome ore fine agglomeration.
National anthem must be played in theatres before movies, orders Supreme Court
  • The Supreme Court on November 30, 2016, made it mandatory for cinema halls to play the National anthem before the screening of a film in theatres across the country. 
  • A Bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Amitava Roy said that “People must show respect to the national anthem and the national flag and pay respect to.
Himachal Pradesh Raj Bhawan adopts cashless system after PM’s appeal
  • Raj Bhawan of Himachal Pradesh has adopted the cashless system for all kind of payments. Governor Acharya Devvrat has directed Raj Bhawan’s official in Shimla to use a cashless system or cheque in all kinds of payments. 
  • The direction was issued after the Prime Minister’s appeal in this regard.
Federal Bank ties up with Spice Digital
  • Federal Bank has tied up with Spice Digital for cash management services through the bank’s e-collection facility.
  •  As per the arrangement, 20,000 plus retail outlets of Spice Digital can now remit its cash collection at the Federal Bank branches pan India. 
  • This helps the outlets to get replenished its running limits on the spot enabling them to continue to serve the customers hassle-free.
  • Spice Digital Ltd is a market leader for mobile value added services (MVAS), mobile applications and Internet products and services.
15 new castes to be included in Central OBC list
  • The Union Government has approved inclusion of 15 new castes and modification of 13 other castes in the Central List of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) on 30 November,2016. 
  • The proposal was approved by the Union Cabinet Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Govt approves Rs 2,000 Cr for displaced families from Pok
  • Union Cabinet has approved Rs 2,000 Cr development package for one-time settlement of 36,384 displaced families from Pakistan occupied areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Chhamb.
  •  It followed the announcement of the Prime Minister’s Development Package for Jammu and Kashmir in November last year.
Cabinet approves Mumbai Urban Transport Project
  • The Union Cabinet has approved the Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase-III estimated to cost Rs 10,947 crores on completion. 
  • The Cabinet was chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The project is expected to be completed in the next five years during 13th Five Year Plan period.
